List: Metro agencies host collection sites for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

DENVER (KDVR) — Coloradans who want to properly dispose of their prescription medications have the opportunity to do so on Saturday — as it’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The 29th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a national initiative aimed at providing a safe and convenient way to dispose of expired, unwanted or unused prescription medications.

Initiative The DEA began in 2010 to provide people the opportunity to get off their medications to help prevent prescription drug abuse.

The DEA is collaborating with nearly 4,000 law enforcement agencies across the country, including Colorado, which is providing thousands of collection sites for community members on Saturday.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. According to the DEA website, here are some of the law enforcement agencies listed that are participating in the state through their collection sites:

The DEA said law enforcement can collect prescription pills, capsules, patches and other forms of prescription drugs. However, some items, such as syringes and illegal drugs, cannot be accepted. For more information, people can go to Drug Enforcement Administration website.
