DENVER (KDVR) — Investigators say a 32-year-old man may have been drunk Oct. 17 when he rammed three other cars, killing one person and injuring two others and himself.
Cesar Hernandez Sanchez, 32, was arrested and now faces 15 charges in connection with a crash on Interstate 58 just after 7 p.m. on October 17.
The Wheat Ridge Police Department says preliminary information on the crash indicates the vehicle was traveling westbound when it crossed the dirt median and entered the eastbound lanes, resulting in a three-vehicle collision.
The road was closed for hours while police investigated and removed the wreckage.
One person was killed and two others suffered serious physical injuries but are expected to be okay. Hernandez Sanchez was also seriously injured in the accident and was released from the hospital on Thursday, October 23. After his release, he was booked into the Jefferson County Jail.
The First Judicial District Attorney’s Office charged Hernandez-Sanchez with two counts of vehicular homicide, four counts of vehicular assault, and one count each of:
- Driving under the influence
- Driving a vehicle without a valid driver’s license
- Reckless driving
Hernandez Sanchez also faces seven traffic citations, which are:
- Driving in the wrong direction on a one-way road
- Failure to drive in one lane
- Improper driving on a divided highway
- Driving on the highway without headlights
- Fails to display low visibility lights
- View expired temporary permit more than 60 days expired
The police department said its partners at Victim Outreach Incorporated have been in contact with the victim’s family.
