For the fourth straight game, Boston Legacy conceded the opening goal on Friday, but still managed to pull off a positive result. This time, it added an extra degree of difficulty, as the field was reduced to 10 players after Bianca St. George was sent off in the 41st minute.
Amanda Gutierrez converted a penalty kick midway through the second half to give Legacy a 1-1 draw with Bay FC in San Jose, Calif., on Friday night. The draw extended the expansion club’s unbeaten run to five matches with a scoreline of 2-0-3.
Playing for the third time in six days, Boston (2-5-3, 9 points) was on the defensive for most of the contest. Bey (3-3-2, 11 points), who had not played since Sunday, was the better in possession, going 19-8 on shot attempts, and 9-3 on corner kicks.
Dorian Bailey put the hosts ahead in the 51st minute. She made a quick dribble with Carly Lima, took a touch wide to her left and shot it towards the far post.
Bay goalkeeper Jordan Selkiewicz gave Legacy the penalty when she fouled Aissata Traoré in the middle of the box when Traoré tried to redirect a cross from Nichelle Prince.
Guterres, whose stoppage-time penalty on Tuesday night gave the Legacy a win over Orlando, sent Silkowitz the wrong way to tie the game.
Veteran goalie Casey Murphy made eight saves, including one in stoppage time to ensure Boston had something to show for its cross-country trip.
Guterres had the best scoring chance during the course of play, shooting over the crossbar from a cross from Prince.
The Legacy is now off for a week, as they next play on May 22 against the Seattle Reign in the first of seven dates at Centerville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
