HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – A 22-year-old has been charged with murder after a chase that led to the death of a passenger on Interstate 6 on Wednesday.

Molina led police on a chase that reached speeds of 120 mph, officials said. The suspect also reportedly turned off his car’s headlights before crashing into the curb.

According to records, there were two other passengers in the car with Molina. As they attempted to exit the vehicle after it crashed, an HPD officer approached from the other side and struck the vehicle, killing one of the passengers.

Molina said he ran from officers because he “wanted to go home,” officials said. He also admitted drinking alcohol and taking cocaine before getting behind the wheel.

He was taken into custody and then denied bail in probable cause court. His next court date is expected to be Monday, June 6, according to records.
