DALLAS (KTRK) — Firefighters and other first responders crowded around a massive fire at a Dallas apartment complex after a gas leak leveled the building and set it on fire.
According to the Dallas Police Department, the fire was reported in the 400 block of East 9th Street in the Oak Cliff neighborhood Thursday afternoon.
Overhead images showed crews battling the building fire as smoke billowed into the sky.

Dallas officials confirmed there were deaths, but did not provide a number. They said that four people were taken to hospital under unknown circumstances.
Crews were first responding to the scene of the gas leak at 12:47 p.m., and arrived two minutes later. That’s when officials said the explosion occurred and the fire broke out.
The five-alarm response brought nearly 100 firefighters to the scene to help contain the flames and protect nearby residents, officials said.

Pictures taken from above responding to the fire showed smoke billowing into the sky from large piles of debris.
Police said a family assistance center had been set up at a high school near the scene, and urged families to go there instead of the active fire scene for help and information.
A neighbor told ABC affiliate WFAA that the explosion shattered the windows of her apartment next door and that she was shocked by the experience, adding that it sounded like a bomb had gone off.
