DENVER (KDVR) — Two Colorado children are safe after their mother, who does not have custody of them and has since been arrested, kidnapped them and took them to Texas, prompting a statewide Amber Alert.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office responded Saturday to a parental kidnapping call, where the guardian of a 13-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl reported their mother, Magalie Mejia Sanchez, had restricted contact with the children and taken them, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
Mejia Sanchez allegedly told the children’s guardian that she was taking them to Mexico.
The Sheriff’s Office began investigating and found information that they were in Texas, which led to an Amber Alert being issued there. According to Amber Alert, they were He was last seen in Gastysburga town outside of Lubbock in the western part of the state.
At about 2 a.m., police in Fredericksburg, about 260 miles from Gastysburg near San Antonio, found the children and arrested Mejia-Sanchez, according to the sheriff’s office. Officials are working to reunite the children with their guardians.
Mejia-Sanchez faces a charge of violating a protective order.
