Los Angeles firefighters worked Tuesday to rescue a woman who was trapped more than 150 feet down a steep slope in a rock quarry near Pacoima. When she was finally taken to a safe location, she was immediately taken into custody by law enforcement.
The emergency call was placed reporting a woman trapped in the quarry in the 12500 block of West Bradford Street at approximately 11 a.m.
Details from the Los Angeles Fire Department were sparse, but officials said they were working in a unified command with the Los Angeles Police Department.
The woman is believed to be about 40 years old, and her condition was not immediately clear. Aerial footage from Sky5 appears to show the woman alert and moving, possibly smoking an e-cigarette.
Emergency vehicles were seen parked in multiple locations near the quarry, and a number of firefighters were seen standing on the edge of the slope above the woman.
At approximately 3:45 p.m., a female responder began descending to her position, at which point she was given a helmet and directed to safety, but police immediately handcuffed her at the scene.
It was not immediately clear whether she was arrested or briefly detained. Police have not provided additional information at this time.
