The Public Prosecution announced the death of Amy Asker, 67, at the scene.

A woman was shot and killed along New Bedford Road Thursday morning, local prosecutors announced.

At about 10:10 a.m. Thursday, police found Amy Asker, 67, lying in the road near 79 Mill Street in New Bedford, prosecutors said.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release that Askar suffered “serious injury” and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police found a tractor trailer directly in front of Asker. The driver remained at the scene and was “cooperating with law enforcement,” the district attorney’s office said.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased took a taxi back to her home on Mill Street immediately before the accident occurred,” prosecutors said.

The local prosecution said that video footage shows the questioner wandering on the road while the tractor trailer was passing by.

State Police and New Bedford Police are investigating the incident, the DA said.
