The Minnesota Timberwolves are putting together a strong season, and their latest win only added to that momentum. Sitting at an impressive (23–13) record, the Wolves continued their run on January 4 with a (141–115) victory over the Washington Wizards.
But here’s the thing. Even though the Timberwolves ran away with the win, everyone’s still talking about one particular moment. And it wasn’t about the final score. It was about how Alex Sarr decided he wouldn’t let Anthony Edwards disrespect him without firing back.
Alex Sarr’s Gameplay on Sunday Night Is Making Waves
So here’s what went down. Early in the first quarter, Edwards was doing his thing. He threw up this wild, looping floater right over Sarr and somehow got it to drop. But Edwards didn’t just celebrate the bucket. He immediately turned to Sarr and pointed at him with this confused, almost mocking look on his face. It was classic Ant-Man trash talk.
But Sarr wasn’t having it. The center didn’t get rattled. Instead, he just waited for his moment. And it came pretty quickly. Just a few moments later, the Wizards were running in transition. Sarr got the ball with a clear path to the basket. He took off and threw down a transition dunk. Edwards was nearby but decided not to try to contest it.
But here’s the best part. As soon as Sarr landed, he did the same thing Edwards had done to him. He pointed right at Ant-Man with that same befuddled gesture. It was instant payback.
Despite that entertaining exchange, the game itself belonged to Minnesota from start to finish. Edwards had a huge night. He scored 35 points. He got plenty of help as well. It is because his teammate, Rudy Gobert, was dominant inside. He finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds to record his 15th double-double of the season.
Interestingly, even Gobert was impressed by Sarr’s performance, and after the game, he praised Sarr’s effort. Moreover, Gobert didn’t stop there but also offered some advice.
“I would say that he has all the talent and all the skills. So, I think it’s just his body. Just keep working on your body, keep getting stronger as a 7-footer, being someone that’s very long. The game is a very high-impact game. So I think that’s going to be key for him, being able to be available for his team every night.”
“Keep getting stronger. Keep working on your recovery, your cardio, your strength. All these things are going to help him, I think, be who he can be, and I think he can be a great player. On both ends, he’s shown that. The things he’s been doing defensively have been impressing me. I didn’t think he was going to do that right now, so it’s been cool to watch,” Gobert said regarding Sarr as per ‘The Athletic.‘
If we see, Sarr joined the Wizards last year after being selected second overall in the NBA Draft. But still, Sunday’s game wasn’t an easy game for him statistically. It is because Sarr finished with just seven points and four assists.
The Timberwolves jumped out to a 10-point lead after the first quarter. They scored 35 points in the second quarter and took a 15-point lead into halftime. Things only got worse for Washington from there, as Minnesota had the most significant lead of the game, 37 points, in the fourth quarter. The Wizards ultimately were defeated, marking their 25th loss of the season.
Looking ahead, the Timberwolves will get ready for their next challenge when they face the Miami Heat on January 6.
