The wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was shot by the couple’s son Sunday night at the family home in Virginia, sources told ESPN.
According to a source, Mia Bieniemy, 57, was hospitalized in stable condition. Police in Loudoun County, Virginia, confirmed that a woman was receiving treatment for “serious injuries” resulting from multiple gunshot wounds, but did not reveal her identity.
Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, was arrested and charged with willful wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm into a dwelling, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. Sources told ESPN that Mia Bieniemy was shot in the chest and arm.

Elijah Bieniemy is being held without bail at a Loudoun County Detention Center, police said.
Eric Bieniemy left Chiefs training camp and was not present at Monday’s practice. He was with the Chiefs on Sunday in St. Joseph, Missouri, on the Missouri Western campus for their second training camp.
Police responded to a report of a shooting at a home in the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in Ashburn, Virginia, at 7:32 p.m. ET on Sunday, Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Leah Ball said Monday.
The leaders said in a statement that they were “aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family,” but did not provide further details.
Bieniemy returned to the Chiefs earlier this year as offensive coordinator, a position he previously held from 2018-2022.
He was previously with the Chicago Bears.
