The plan: End temporary visits to Sconset, the rural corner of East Nantucket, by investing in a place of your own.
The problem: Half the team suffers from horrific snoring.
Solution: Two huts sitting side by side.
Whether or not snoring is the real reason to invest in two homes on the island, 7 and 9 Park Lane offer opportunity as they are being sold together.
In large part, the huts are mirror images. Both wear cedar paneling and sage trim in the classic Nantucket/Cape Cod style, both are one story, both have entry doors flanked by large windows with flower boxes, both are 384 square feet, and both display nameplates of the houses. But each has its own history.
The cottage at 9 Park was once an essential means of communication with the mainland when it operated as a telegraph house for summer visitors. Built in 1924, it was later used as a café, patio and record store, according to the owners.
The sign above the door says: “Telegraph House.”
The second cottage, on the right facing Park Lane, is called ‘Right Bank’. One difference from its neighbor is the loft which can be accessed by a ship’s ladder in the bedroom. It is not a formal bedroom and has a small square window to allow natural light.
Both homes have similar floor plans, but there are differences in color palettes.
From the street, the front doors open directly into the 242-square-foot bedroom/living room with pine plank floors and support beams crossing the white ceilings. On either side of the screen doors are two large windows with split light fixtures. On the right outer walls are double-hung windows and on the left a pair of similar sized windows.
An entrance leads to other spaces. The 73-square-foot kitchens have electric stoves, white cabinets, and vinyl flooring. The sinks are located below a double hung window and the second entry doors are located to the right.
The last room in each unit is a 39-square-foot full bathroom with shower and stacked washer/dryer. The vanity of the Telegraph House is white, and the right bank is black.
The Telegraph House’s window trim is Nantucket Red, while the Right Bank’s trim is a soft butter/white. The right bank features a modest cathedral-style roof.

The huts can be occupied year-round, Hanson said. But, she noted, “Sconset goes into a hibernation mode where businesses close their doors in September and October and then wait until April to reopen.”
“I can’t speak to what these huts are like in the winter, but I can tell you the neighborhood they live in, Consett, is very quiet in the winter,” she said. “It’s not a popular year-round neighborhood.”
The cottages are located on 2 lots but are sold as one unit.
