Bucs rookie tight end Bauer Sharp wasn’t expected to be a big time contributor for the Bucs as a sixth round pick. He was going to produce on special teams, but that was about it…so we thought.
Coming into Bucs OTAs and mini-camp, Sharp has been very impressive on the offensive side of the ball. He scored touchdowns in several practice, showing athletic ability to leap after the football to score and also create separation from defenders trying to cove him.

Sharp got more playing time due to first string tight end Cade Otton and third stringer Devin Culp missing practice because of injury. Sharp has been playing so well that it wouldn’t be a shock if he were to eventually surpass Payne Durham for second string during the season.
What Sharp brings is a chaotic energy to the team, but in a positive way. He plays like his hair is on fire. His receiving ability is better than Durham’s and his blocking ability is ahead of Culp’s. When combining the two, plus his special teams play, he can factor into the Bucs’ plan more than was was planned to be.
Pewter Report’s Matt Matera and Bailey Adams discuss Sharp’s ascending play and the tight end room on a recent podcast episode.
