BYU’s season has already come to an end.
In the first round of March Madness on Thursday night, No. 11 seed Texas outlasted the Cougars in a 79-71 loss in a Western Conference game.
Texas was solid throughout, with four of their players scoring at least 10 points, and big man Matas Vokiitaitis leading the way with 23 points and 16 rebounds while shooting 10-for-17 from the field.
The Longhorns largely dominated Thursday’s game, holding a nine-goal lead in the first half, and not once giving up the lead in the second half.
BYU forward AJ Dybantsa’s 35-point performance wasn’t enough for the Cougars, as their bench failed to score a point throughout the game.
Dipansta, who averaged 25.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists in his freshman season, is viewed as one of the top prospects in this year’s NBA draft.
Texas is scheduled to face the winner of Gonzaga and Kennesaw State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
