Tesla driver suffering mental health crisis slams into Peninsula home: PD

(KRON) – A speeding car crashed into a home at 399 Thatcher Lane in Foster City shortly after midnight Sunday.

Officers who responded to the crash found the driver, a 29-year-old woman, sitting on the ground near the wreckage “in a state of severe emotional and physical distress,” the Foster City Police Department said.

The Tesla “was traveling at a high rate of speed before it struck a backyard fence and through the side of a house,” the Foster City Police Department said. The car eventually stopped after hitting a light pole near the home’s front yard.

Three people were sleeping inside the house at the time of the accident. No residents were harmed. The driver suffered some scratches and an injury to his collarbone.

“After his condition was evaluated at the scene by police and medical personnel, it was determined that the driver was experiencing a mental health crisis,” the police department said.

The driver was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. She is not suspected of being driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.

Police submitted the case to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office to determine if the driver will be charged with reckless driving. Foster City building inspectors are assessing structural damage to the home.
