Southern California man arrested for alleged rape, kidnapping of intoxicated woman

A Ventura County man has been arrested for allegedly raping a drunk woman.

The suspect was identified as Eddie Alfredo Cortez, 22, of Oxnard, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

On September 11, the victim, a 21-year-old Oxnard woman, told authorities she had been sexually assaulted by Cortez.

After investigating, detectives learned that Cortez had been communicating with the victim via social media before they decided to meet in person.

Eddie Alfredo Cortez, 22, of Oxnard, is shown in a booking photo from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

Cortez allegedly drove the victim to the area of the 100 block of Island View Drive in Oxnard where they drank alcoholic beverages he provided.

“The victim soon began experiencing nausea, dizziness, and loss of motor function,” authorities said. “Cortez then sexually assaulted the victim, who was incapacitated and unable to consent.”

Detectives conducted a follow-up investigation and found several pieces of evidence that “corroborate the victim’s statements and establish probable cause that Cortez committed multiple sexual assault violations.”

On September 30, investigators located and arrested Cortez on charges of rape of an intoxicated person and kidnapping with intent to commit rape. He is being held on $500,000 bail.

His next court hearing is scheduled for October 13 in Ventura County Superior Court. No further details were revealed as the incident is still under investigation.
