South Houston PD officer Bobby Botello who was shot in the head by driver discharged from hospital, agency says

SOUTH HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A week after being shot in the head while on duty, a police officer is released from the hospital after making a quick recovery.

According to the South Houston Police Department, Officer Aaron “Bobby” Botello was released from the hospital Friday and will return home for the Easter break.

A week ago, law enforcement said Botello was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after an attempted traffic stop turned into a slow-motion chase, leading to a shootout.

A south Houston officer was shot in the head and seriously injured. A week later, he was discharged from the hospital. His sister said: “By God’s grace.”

The South Houston Police Department told Eyewitness News that Botello underwent two surgeries after the shooting, but remained awake, alert and smiling by the next afternoon. They added that he was out of the ICU by Monday.

HPD Lt. Ali previously said the driver who fired at police died at the scene, and Botello’s trip to the hospital was facilitated with the help of Houston police.
