(KRON) – Two members of a “reckless driving crew” were arrested and had their cars towed on Oct. 7 after a months-long investigation into social media videos of dangerous driving in the Bay Area, the California Highway Patrol said.
CHP officers began investigating the crew on April 5, after investigators found videos on social media of a street racer swerving through traffic at high speeds.
“Through the investigation, two vehicles were identified as involved in numerous accidents throughout the Bay Area,” the CHP said. “Investigators determined that a white Lexus sedan and a white BMW were seen in multiple videos, some of which included identifying information that allowed investigators to locate the owners.”
Officers monitored the command staff and served search warrants at multiple locations in the Bay Area during arrests last week. CHP officers also confiscated an illegal weapon and identified a third member of the command staff who will also face charges, the CHP said.
CHP Golden Gate Division Chief Don Goodbrand called the command staff’s behavior negligent.
“The California Highway Patrol is committed to holding accountable those who organize, engage in and promote this type of behavior, who are responsible for the risks to the motoring public,” Goodbrand said. “We will continue to pursue those who put our communities at risk with their reckless and negligent behavior, and we will make sure they are held accountable for their crimes.”
