Skullcandy is back, and the brand’s new Skullcandy Crusher 1080 headphones deliver big sound.
It’s also a big move for the brand: Skullcandy has long been known for its more affordable sound, but this launch pushes it further into the premium over-ear headphone space without completely losing its lower-priced appeal.
With sound from Bose and patented bass technology from Skullcandy, these headphones deliver the performance of some of the best over-ear headphones on the market, but at a much lower price. By the numbers, the Skullcandy headphones cost $280, while competing headphones can cost around $350.
Skullcandy headphones offer active noise cancellation, up to 60 hours of battery life, and fast charging. It also allows multi-point pairing, allowing you to use it with your smartphone and laptop at the same time.
Other features include plush memory foam ear cups, a padded headband, and an included carrying bag for easy travel.
But what really sets these headphones apart is Skullcandy’s patented bass technology. I haven’t had a full week to test them yet, but my first impression is that the bass is powerful, immersive, and impossible to ignore. These are the kind of headphones you use when you want your music to sound bigger, louder, and more physical — especially if you’re wearing a real headband.
Its frame is a little bulkier and a little heavier than other picks on the market, but the whole feel is very premium. I typically associate Skullcandy with budget earbuds, but I was pleased to find that the new Crusher 1080 ANC headphones deliver great sound at a lower price.
You can check them out now at Skullcandy and Amazon in four colors, although the Candy color has easily become the most popular choice.
