Shots fired during home invasion in Saugus

Two masked men dressed all in black were part of a brazen home invasion where shots were fired in broad daylight Sunday in Saugus, police said.

Saugus Police received a 911 call shortly after 12 noon Sunday about an apparent home invasion on the residential block of Oakwood Street. Police say that two masked men, dressed in black and armed with pistols, forcibly entered a house.

Police Chief Michael Ricciardelli said that shots were fired during the incident, but no one was injured.

Police arrested the two suspects, Derek Matarazzo and Timothy Gregory of Boston. The couple faces multiple felony charges, including home invasion, destruction of property, carrying an unlicensed firearm, assault with a dangerous weapon, and discharging a firearm near a residence.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and there is no public threat. There are no other suspects involved.

Matarazzo and Gregory pleaded not guilty in Linn County Circuit Court on Monday to nine and 10 charges, respectively, related to the incident. The court ordered them held without bail due to their dangerousness and sent them to the Essex County House of Correction. Matarazzo and Gregory will return to court on May 12 for a detention hearing.
