Schumer, Jeffries & Co. need to get real about the enemy to the left

Democratic Socialists, who scored high-profile victories last Tuesday, have already begun criticizing House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Gov. Kathy Hochul; The hard left’s hatred of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was already entrenched, so when were they going to get serious about fighting?

“You’re next,” a DSA crowd on election night shouted when Jeffries showed his face. Hochul “knows we’re coming for her,” Gustavo Gordillo, head of DSA in New York City, told the New York Times.

Left-wing candidates across the country are talking about ousting Jeffries and Schumer from leadership, while rank-and-file Democrats wonder if they have what it takes to defeat the extremists.

However, Jeffries says the SPD’s march will not “reshape our identity” as Democrats. Schumer retorts to the phrase “We will stop Trump” as if hard-leftists couldn’t say the same thing, only louder.

Hochul says. . . Well, who cares? She has already paid Mayor Zahran Mamdani billions in taxpayer money to implement his agenda, ensuring there is no threat from the left in what will clearly be her final re-election campaign.

If she wins, she will continue to concede; This is what you do.

The DSA’s plan is clear: continue to turn city government into its own welfare farm and power base, starving out supporters of old-school democracy; Practicing “salami politics” by carving out safe blue seats to win Democratic caucus majorities in the state House and Senate to advance their legislative agendas and To begin gerrymandering legislative and House districts to give them safe seats in the DSA.

They know full well that Jeffries winked at the redistricting process that helped defeat Rep. Jamaal Bowman in the 2024 primary; Expect them to return the favor as soon as possible: Look out, Reps. Grace Meng and Ritchie Torres.

This movement is national: Democratic socialists are seizing Democratic seats, not just in urban America, but even in the suburbs.

Whatever they say in public, Jeffries and Schumer need to acknowledge that the Democratic establishment is enabling the rise of extremists, and reverse the course that is killing off the old school.

If rank-and-file Democrats don’t bring a post-Trump vision for the party to rally the center to their cause, the party when it returns to power will be stuck playing the hard-left game just as it did in the Biden years.

I admit that the enemy is not like that only To the right; Instead of gerrymandering to remove Republican seats and create safe Democratic seats that the SPD can then seize, create more competitive seats that can elect more centrist Democrats like Reps. Tom Suozzi and Laura Guillen — even if it means risking electing a few centrist Republicans like Rep. Mike Lawler.

Heck, work quietly with Republicans to undo hard left power grabs like Sen. Liz Warren’s CPS.

Democrats have spent the past decade exploiting hatred of Trump, a “strategy” that actually helped Trump and Far left.

If you don’t want to be eaten by the revolution, you should make fighting the extremists your top priority, because they will never stop shooting at you.
