In addition to being a brilliant tennis player, Roger Federer is a loving father of four children. While in Melbourne for the 2026 Australian Open, the Swiss was with his children when he asked the media present not to capture videos and pictures of them, stressing the need to maintain their privacy.
Roger Federer Protects His Children’s Privacy During Australian Open Visit
Federer and his wife, Mirka, got married on April 11, 2009, at Wenkenhof Villa in Riehen, near Basel. They are parents of two sets of identical twins: their first set, twin girls Charlene Riva and Myla Rose, were born in 2009, followed by their identical twin boys, Leo and Lenny, who were born in 2014.
After retiring from professional tennis in 2022 following his participation in that year’s Laver Cup, Federer returned to Melbourne for the 2026 Australian Open with his family. On one occasion, upon returning to the hotel where the family was staying, he noticed media waiting at the entrance. Observing this, Federer got out of the car and requested the media to respect his children’s privacy before walking into the hotel.

Before the 2026 Australian Open, Federer had a practice session with Casper Ruud, during which they contested a tie-break, with the former World No. 1 ultimately emerging victorious.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion also participated in the inaugural Australian Open opening ceremony held on January 17, 2026. This event featured a match called the ‘Battle of the World No. 1s,’ alongside tennis legends such as Ashleigh Barty, Andre Agassi, Patrick Rafter, and Lleyton Hewitt.
Throughout his career, Federer won the Australian Open six times, namely, in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2017, and 2018. The title he claimed in 2018 was his 20th and final Grand Slam trophy. Then, he defeated Aljaž Bedene, Jan-Lennard Struff, Richard Gasquet, Márton Fucsovics, Tomáš Berdych, Chung Hyeon, and Marin Čilić to win the tournament.
Having turned professional in 1998, Federer secured 20 Grand Slam singles titles during his career, including a record eight men’s singles Wimbledon titles, six Australian Open titles, five US Open titles, and one French Open title.
The Swiss was ranked World No. 1 in the ATP rankings and won a gold medal in doubles at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, along with a silver medal in singles at the 2012 London Olympics, among many other accolades, during his career.
