Quincy Wilson expressed gratitude after phenomenal showings at the Jim Mitchell Invitational on December 20, 2025. He was scheduled to compete in both 55m and 500m, but forwent the finals of the former event to focus on the longer distance solely.
Wilson, the Bullis High School standout and Olympic gold medalist, committed to the Maryland track program, choosing from a group featuring UCLA, USC, Texas A&M, and South Carolina.
Quincy Wilson Makes Feelings Known After Dominant Performances in Season Opener
Wilson, who holds the world under-18 best in the indoor 400m, has been a driving force on the track, making waves as a precocious talent. The American high school record holder in both the indoor and outdoor 400m opened his indoor season with a series of top-class performances at the Jim Mitchell Invitational.
He ran the preliminary round of the 55m, setting a new personal best of 6.34 seconds, improving on his previous mark of 6.49. He later forwent the final to focus on the 500m, which he completed in 1:02.05, the fastest time by a U.S. high school athlete this season.
Following the wins, Wilson shared his times on his Instagram story, expressing gratitude to God for a kick-start to his healthy season. He wrote:
“Thank you God for a healthy season opener, US #1 and US #2.”

Wilson was part of the elite 400m field at the 2025 USA Track and Field Championships. He ran 45.39 seconds in the heats and finished fourth, which was not enough to qualify for the semifinals or finals.
Wilson Named the Olympian Who Motivated Him as a Kid
Wilson was part of the U.S. men’s 4x400m relay team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Although he competed only in the qualifying round, he earned a gold medal with the team, which broke the Olympic record and finished just 0.14 seconds shy of the world record. The then 16-year-old became the youngest track and field Olympic champion in history.
Wilson’s idol, from whom he has been drawing inspiration since a young age, also shared the track with him in Paris, breaking the 400m hurdles world record for the sixth time, and won gold with the women’s 4x400m team.
In an interview with the Olympics this year, the teenage sensation spoke about how Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone shaped his track and field career, not only through her athletic finesse but also through her faith, which has been instrumental in her journey.
McLaughlin-Levrone transitioned to the 400m flat this year, breaking the US record at the 2025 World Championships. Wilson is also following in her footsteps, headed to the Maryland Terrapins to start his class in 2026.
