MISSOURI CITY, Texas (KTRK) — Authorities say officers busted a large auto parts shop operation in Missouri City on Tuesday, discovering several stolen vehicles and parts.
According to the Missouri City Police Department, officers responded to a “suspicious vehicle call” at a local business on Tuesday at 12:04 p.m., where a neighbor reported that a box truck with no license plates dropped vehicle parts.
Officers said they arrived at the scene and saw the box truck leaving the property at 2105 Brown Street. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the truck, and the vehicle’s driver, Francisco Tevar Reyes, was arrested on a warrant for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and possession of stolen vehicle parts, authorities said.
Officials said patrol officers spoke with the business owner and asked about a recent delivery of auto parts. Investigators said they checked the VIN number of a pickup truck on the property and confirmed it had been stolen.
A total of six vehicles were confirmed stolen from the property, according to officials. Police said the shop owner, Mohamed Fatou, was arrested for possession of stolen property.
Investigators said they returned to the scene on Wednesday to resume the investigation. With the assistance of the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office, a search warrant was obtained, and the commercial property was searched for additional stolen property, investigators said, adding that a total of 17 to 20 vehicles and vehicle parts were confirmed by multiple agencies.
“We have 3 truck cabs recovered, 8 chassis, 3 semi trucks, and 3 trucks with altered VIN numbers,” said Detective Derek Spencer with the Missouri City Police Department.
SkyEye13 flew over the scene Wednesday morning, capturing images for authorities investigating the property, multiple vehicles and auto parts.
SkyEye13 was on the scene in Missouri City on Wednesday morning, where authorities were investigating a “major auto chop shop operation.”
Missouri City Police said the investigation remains ongoing, with search warrants being executed on the property to identify more stolen vehicles and parts.
“The search warrant gives us five days. So, you know, it’s a methodical process as far as searching vehicles and parts and trying to recover what we can recover,” Spencer said.
Multiple agencies are working together in the investigation, including the Houston Police Department, Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Department, Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office, National Insurance Crime Bureau and the Texas Department of Public Safety, authorities added.
