Frick Group Fellows, Young Fellows and assorted companions showed up on two successive evenings—Tuesday, June 9, and Wednesday, June 10—for the museum’s annual Spring Garden Party. Inside, attendees viewed “Ruffles and ribbons: fashion plates from the time of Marie Antoinette“, but TRUE Fashion plates can be found outside, taking turns around the museum’s exclusive Fifth Avenue lawn. Said Garden saw some competition, with the see-and-be-seen collection leaning heavily on striking seasonal pastels and puffy floral decorations. Live jazz music from Juilliard School musicians set the mood, enhanced by cheerful margaritas and champagne flutes accompanying seasonal snacks and desserts. Exhibition talks continued throughout the evening, and were open to all those who ventured inside for a special peek at the permanent collection, or “Ruffles & Ribbons.” However, one suspects that most of the style-related comments were happening in the park, where the crowd was parading and flying long after sunset.
