Olympian and Utah Gymnastics alum MyKayla Skinner reacted to Red Rocks sophomore Avery Neff earning a perfect score on the vault, the first 10 of the season. Her performance was for the record books, as it was her full score and a career-high in the discipline.
Skinner was a star gymnast in the Utah program during her time and left a legacy that still resonates in the NCAA world.

During the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad Meet at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Neff was a force to be reckoned with in the vault, maneuvering a Yurchenko 1.5 and sticking the landing, bringing the audience to the edge of their seats. Her scores also helped the Utah team to finish fourth behind Oklahoma, LSU, and UCLA.
Neff’s performance garnered the reaction of Skinner, who ecstatically commented under the Utah Gymnastics’ official Instagram post. She wrote:
“JAW DROPPED TO THE FLOOR!!!! Literally perfect! Well deserved”
Neff had a successful freshman season in 2025, earning her first all-around win in the Regional Semifinal. She was also the vault champion in the Regional and was honored as the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. She also made the All-Big 12 Freshman Team and set multiple career-highs.

Skinner’s NCAA Achievements and Why She Left College Prematurely
Skinner made it to the junior National US team at the beginning of her career, and also competed at the Pan American Championships and the World Championships in 2014 and 2015. The same year, she signed the Letter of Intent for the Utah Red Rock program but deferred enrolling by a year to invest all of her time in the 2016 Rio Olympic training.
She began her college career in 2017 and quickly rose to the top of the gymnastics ranks. Skinner won the NCAA floor title and finished as the all-around runner-up, set a record for the most Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week awards (seven) in a single season, and also held the record for the most Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors, among many other achievements.
In her sophomore season, she continued to excel, becoming the NCAA vault champion and the all-around silver medalist. She also won two Pac-12 titles, earned five Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week honors, and added several more accolades.
In her junior year, the 29-year-old was the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional all-around and floor champion, capping her collegiate career by setting an NCAA record for consecutive routines without a fall, along with several other pathbreaking accomplishments.
Skinner ended her college season after her junior year, aiming for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She wanted to give herself the best chance of making the team, and resumed training at her club gym. She was the vault silver medalist at the Games.
