The father of murdered influencer Sarah Gilson’s children begged her to leave her second husband for years before he shot her dead in a horrific murder-suicide weeks after he called him a pedophile online.
Gilson’s first husband, Lyle Landers, told People magazine that he was always concerned about his ex-wife’s relationship with Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffy, who was accused of molesting a juvenile before he was found dead next to Gilson in her Oklahoma home.
“Sean has been a danger to her ever since they met,” said Landers, the father of Jillson’s two children.
She was stuck in a relationship where domestic violence seemed acceptable. “I begged her for five years to stay away from him,” said the ex, who broke up with her seven years ago.
“I offered to help her, in any way I could, to get away from him. But he seemed to have some kind of control over her, and she couldn’t seem to escape.”
Landers’ worst fears seemed to be confirmed last Thursday when the 43-year-old lifestyle and beauty influencer was found riddled with bullets, less than six weeks after she appeared in court to obtain an emergency protective order against her estranged second husband.
Gilson claimed in her application for a protection order that Duffy, 48, threatened suicide and “ran away,” according to the British newspaper, the Daily Mail. Oklahoman.
Duffy, a member of the Osage Indian tribe in Oklahoma, was told to stay 100 yards away from his wife, forcing him to leave their home, the newspaper wrote.
She had previously requested protective orders against him twice in 2021, but they were denied after she failed to show up at hearings to present her case.
Two weeks before her death, Gilson Duffy was accused of being a pedophile in a TikTok video similar to people pretending to sit down to watch a Netflix documentary, with court records showing that he was accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl who played for a youth basketball team he coached.
On the same day she was in court, a protective order was issued against Duffy on behalf of the teen, who allegedly assaulted him over a long period that spanned multiple states.
Another team’s coach claimed to have witnessed Duffy assaulting her inside an elementary school where a competitive travel team was renting the court while school was out of session and notified her parents, prompting an investigation.
Duffy allegedly sent the minor inappropriate messages, kissed and touched her inappropriately, invited her to his hotel room during a tournament, and offered her money to “keep her quiet,” according to court documents obtained by The Oklahoman.
Investigators noted that similar behavior by Duffey toward this player occurred over an extended period across multiple states and law enforcement jurisdictions.
Duffy fled the scene that night and has eluded police contact ever since.
Gilson and Landers, who have two children, ended their marriage amicably seven years ago.
“It was the best thing in the world for our kids, but also for us,” Landers told People magazine.
“We get along like everyone else, and it shows in our children. She was an amazing mother and would die for her children. In fact, her trying to protect the children is what ultimately led to her death.”
