SEATTLE — Two hits over nine innings were enough to give them a chance Monday night, but the Mets won’t extend their winning streak without a third.
That hit never arrived.
Instead, the Mariners’ winning streak continued for the seventh straight game, as Cole Young’s single against AJ Minter led the Mets to a 3-2 loss in 10 innings at T-Mobile Park.
Randy Arozarena, the automatic runner to start the inning, stole third base to leave the Mariners 90 feet away from winning. Young followed up with a jumper to left field, snapping the Mets’ four-game winning streak.
In the kind of performance that has barely been seen from a left fielder since the 2024 season, Sean Mania stifled the Mariners in a major relief role.
Manaea, in his longest outing of the season, allowed one run on one hit and one walk on four hits over five innings. Mania has been moved into that more prominent role in recent days, essentially switching spots with David Peterson, who has become a lower-leverage reliever.
Austin Warren was the opener on this night and pitched a perfect first inning before Randy Arozarena sank to start the second inning. Manaea was called out and walked Cole Young with one out before Rob Refsnyder pushed into a double play to end the inning.
Manaea surrendered a homer to Colt Emerson with one out in the third in the first inning of the game. Emerson hit an 0-1 sweeper into the right field seats to surrender the fourth homer of the season by Manaea.
Jared Young led off the fifth to tie the score at 1-1 after Emerson Hancock retired 12 consecutive batters to start the game. Young hopped on a 3-1, four-seam fastball and cleared the fence to left-center for his second homer in three outs. Young started the day with an .837 OPS since returning last week from surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee.

AJ Ewing’s catch to center field robbed Cole Young of a hit to start the bottom of the fifth. Manaea retired Refsnyder before Mitch Garver’s high fly to left field became third.
Marcus Semien continued his hot stretch with a homer in the sixth to give the Mets a 2-1 lead. Semien started the day with a .954 OPS over his previous seven games. The blast was his sixth of the season and second in as many games. Semien had a disappointing season overall, after arriving in the trade that sent Brandon Nimmo to the Texans in the offseason.
“He’s a guy who doesn’t panic, and that’s the most important thing,” coach Carlos Mendoza said before the match. “He’s a guy who’s been in this league a long time and he knows there’s going to be tough times, but he doesn’t panic. He knows his foundation. He’s sticking to what he believes in and what’s gotten him here so far.”
Josh Naylor homered against Brooks Raleigh leading off the bottom of the seventh to tie the score at 2-2. The hit was only the Mariners’ second of the night. Raleigh allowed a single to Young before Luke Weaver scored the final out.
Ewing’s diving catch on JP Crawford’s sinking line completed a perfect eighth inning for Weaver. The right-hander scored 12y A straight scoreless outing.
Devin Williams hit a perfect ninth, getting retired by the Mets with seven straight hits after Young’s single in the seventh.
