As Greater Boston prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, so is the MBTA Implement temporary service modifications For next summer.
Temporary service changes will be active from June 8 through July 12. Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead, as most commuter rail lines will operate on reduced timetables while subway and bus service will be extended on match days.
Transportation officials are urging riders to check schedules before traveling and use real-time tools, including MBTA alerts and the MBTA Go app, to get the latest service information.
Changes in rail service
Most railway lines will run less frequently during the tournament, although peak service – 6 to 10 a.m. and 3:30 to 7 p.m. – will remain unchanged.
Several lines will also see route-specific changes during World Cup matches, including:
- Fairmount Line: No service to Readville (during games).
- Fall River/New Bedford Line: There are no connecting trains in East Taunton. Only direct service will operate to and from South Station (June 8 to July 12).
- Franklin/Foxboro Line: There is no rail service to Foxboro or between Reidville and Windsor Gardens (during games).
- Shuttle buses between Forge Park/495 and Walpole will be available to connect passengers to the Providence Line at Canton Junction.
- Needham Line: No service on weekends (June 13 and 14). Buses will be available to connect to the Orange and Green lines.
- Stoughton Line: Shuttle buses will replace train service between Canton Junction and Stoughton (during weekday matches).
The MBTA also offers Promotions For commuters, including free Fridays and a 50 percent discount on monthly passes.
Extending subway and bus hours
Red, orange, green and blue The lines, along with several Silver Line bus routes, will have extended service to handle late-night crowds.
The service will run:
- until approximately 4 a.m. after the June 13 game
- until approximately 2 a.m. after weekday games
Routes with expanded service include SL1, SL3, SL4 (June 13 only), SL5 and bus routes 1, 22, 39, 66 and 110.
Lines 23, 28, 57, 111 and 116 will also operate extended service seven days a week.
The Ferry and The RIDE will continue to operate their routes Regular tables Throughout the tournament.
For those who plan to attend the games, the MBTA offers a round-trip “Boston Stadium Train” ride Tickets to Gillette Stadium For $80.
Commuter trains on match days will be the only public transportation option directly serving the stadium, officials said. Subway lines or regular buses will not operate to the stadium.
