Loaded ghost gun, high-capacity magazine seized after felon speed crashes during Petaluma police pursuit

(KRON) – A 41-year-old felon who allegedly did not yield to officers during a traffic stop lost control of his vehicle and crashed his vehicle while speeding before attempting to pass Petaluma police.

The chase began at 11:50 p.m. Thursday in the area of ​​southbound Highway 101, south of Castania Road, and ended in a collision near Petaluma Boulevard South and Crystal Lane when the driver attempted to maneuver around the roundabout.

After he fled on foot, police said they quickly located the suspect, identified as Kenneth Douglas, of Willits, who was hiding near thick grass. Douglas has several outstanding felony warrants, according to police. He was taken into custody without further incident.

There were no reports of injuries.

“While searching the area, officers located a loaded, unregistered ghost gun equipped with a 30-round high-capacity magazine, loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition 10 feet away from Douglas,” police said in a social media post. “Douglas, a convicted felon, is legally prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. Officers also found methamphetamine, a methamphetamine pipe, and counterfeit identification cards in Douglas’ possession.”

Douglas was booked into jail and faces a long list of charges, including felony possession of a firearm, possession of a large-capacity magazine, and hit-and-run-property damage.

Police added: “The combination of an illegal firearm, dangerous driving behavior and drugs poses a significant threat to the public. We are grateful that no one was injured, and that we were able to safely arrest the suspect and remove an illegal weapon from our streets.”
