Lane Kiffin Faces Significant Backlash After Ole Miss Drops a Spot in the College Football Playoff Rankings

When the College Football Playoff Rankings were released on Tuesday night, Ole Miss Rebels fans were not happy.

In fact, a lot of their ire was directed toward Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin, who has not publicly made his decision on whether he will or will not stay at the school known. The Rebels dropped one spot in the new College Football Playoff Rankings, now sitting at No. 7.

Ole Miss Fans Want Lane Kiffin Out

Ole Miss fans, once they saw the new rankings roll out on ESPN, didn’t hold back in their displeasure over the Kiffin coaching situation. There’s even some thought rolling around out there that Kiffin’s lack of certainty around the head coaching decision might have affected the Rebels’ stance in the College Football Playoff Rankings.

One Ole Miss fan already is giving Kiffin a hard time about the school potentially missing out on a home game in the College Football Playoff. The fan wrote on X, “Thanks @Lane_Kiffin we’re gonna miss a home playoff game bc of you.”

Another disgruntled fan apparently wants Kiffin to hit the door right now and leave, whether that next stop might be with LSU or Florida, who have been in the news most as potential landing points for Kiffin.

This fan simply wrote on X, “Just leave now @Lane_Kiffin.” And another fan seems to share a similar sentiment, albeit in different words, when it comes to Kiffin. What did this Ole Miss fan say? “I am over Lane Kiffin. Larry has spoken.”

While some Ole Miss fans might want to aim their frustrations over the Rebels’ drop in the College Football Playoff Rankings at the College Football Playoff Select Committee and chairman Hunter Yurachek, one fan didn’t go that far.

This Ole Miss fan aimed a jab, in this case, toward Kiffin: “We shouldn’t blame the committee, we should blame @Lane_Kiffin.”

All of this Kiffin drama is taking center stage ahead of this Friday’s Egg Bowl between the Rebels and Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss. Ole Miss players do not know whether they will have a coach after the game, no matter the outcome.

Another fan decided to aim anger toward not only Kiffin but ESPN, too. “Greatest Season Ole Miss football has ever had and this is what #ESPN is talking about. @Lane_Kiffin congrats on ruining the reputation you’ve spent the past 6 years building”.

According to the PFSN CFB Offense Impact metrics, Ole Miss has an impact score of 86.8 and grades out at a B. The Rebels are going to need their offense to step up against Mississippi State, who, despite not having a great season, will look to knock off Ole Miss on Friday.

In a statement, Ole Miss and Kiffin have agreed not to discuss the coach’s future until after the Egg Bowl takes place. With this drama still playing out for the rest of this week, though, Ole Miss fans have plenty of time to get even more upset over the College Football Playoff Rankings situation.
