‘Kangaroo on the loose’: Police in Elmendorf, Texas take hopping herbivore that escaped ‘into custody’

ELMENDORF, Texas (KTRK) — Police in a Texas city were dealing with a strange pet that they said was “a city bingo card check.”

Officials with The Elmendorf Police Department has warned the public of a kangaroo on the loose Wednesday afternoon.

The Elmendorf Police Department shared photos of the loose kangaroo on social media, showing the curious creature among the grasses and cactus plants.

Elmendorf PD previously said they coordinated with the Game Warden and Texas Parks Wildlife to locate jumping herbivores safely.

Officials warned people not to approach or attempt to catch the kangaroo. They also said that people should not trap kangaroos.

In an update later in the day, officials said the kangaroo had been safely located and “trapped,” adding that “no further movement across city limits” was expected.

Elmendorf PD said it appreciates the community’s help in bringing the unexpected guest home safely. They did not say where the kangaroo came from or how it escaped.

Photos shared by the Elmendorf Police Department on Facebook showed the kangaroo in a field among cactus plants.

Elmendorf is located southeast of San Antonio.

Texas law allows kangaroo ownership.
