It’s been a long and exhausting season for the Angels, but it appears the team helped at least one fan rediscover his love for baseball.
New York Times award-winning sportswriter Jeff Perlman released a video on TikTok, revealing that the Angels had rekindled his passion for sports.
“In the end [month] I’ve probably gone to five games, three of the five by myself, and you might be thinking, “What kind of loser goes to a baseball game alone?” that it [the] “The best,” Perlman said during the TikTok video. “I buy a very high ticket. …I get free parking because I park off-site, and I absolutely love that.
“I love the feel of the stadium, I love the look of the stadium, I love the color green, I love the national anthem, the seventh-inning stretch, and I love that the Angels always do these really corny giveaways.”
Although the Angels have a poor record (39-61), Perlman said he enjoys being able to watch baseball at a reasonable price and called it “the cheapest and best value for your money ever.”
Pearlman went on to compare how cheap Angels tickets are to Dodgers tickets. He said he’s glad he didn’t have to spend $40 to park and spend more than $100 to get a ticket.
Perlman is a New York Times bestselling author who writes about football, baseball, and basketball. He also wrote a biography about Tupac Shakur.
Some of the notable books Perlman has written about Los Angeles sports in his career include Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s, and The Three-Ring Circus: Kobe, Shaq, Phil, and the Crazy Years of the Lakers Dynasty.
Pearlman, who now attends Angels games to enjoy the experience of watching baseball in its purest form, said he takes pictures with fans in attendance and leaves free copies of his books throughout the stadium. He enjoys getting cold brew coffee from the stadium’s Rise Espresso Bar, which includes cold foam and cocoa puffs.
The 2026 season has been another difficult season for Angels fans, and the franchise may lose 100 games in a season for the first time.
Fans at Angel Stadium have expressed their frustration with ownership this year. Earlier this season, they held protests against owner Arte Moreno, urging him to sell the team due to another losing season.
Protests also occurred inside the stadium as fans participated in the Tarps Off movement, which included regular “sell the team” chants echoing from the right field seats.
Perlman admitted that he had mixed feelings about Tarps Off but described it as “entertaining”.
“My new happy place is going to Angels games, parking free, knowing I have a $5 ticket, and watching the game, assuming the Angels will probably lose,” Pearlman said. “Just enjoy the moment”
