HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — Homicide investigators are looking into a fatal shooting after U.S. Marshals found a man shot while serving a federal warrant, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The federal operation happened at a home in the 2000 block of Edendale Circle in Katy Thursday afternoon, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.
Major Bin Qatrib said special agents from the Public Security Directorate’s Criminal Investigation Division and members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force were issuing a felony warrant.
The suspect, described as a man in his 50s, was wanted for organized criminal activity out of Harris County and for aggravated assault out of Bexar County, Qatrib said.
When officers knocked on the door and received no response, they stormed in and deployed a drone inside before a single shot was heard, according to Qatrib.
Investigators said they broke through the master bedroom window and found the wanted man suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation with assistance from HCSO, Qatrib said.
