The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles announced Monday that it is now taking applications for its annual 2026 low-number plate lottery.

To be eligible, an applicant must be a current resident of Massachusetts and have an active, state-registered and insured passenger vehicle. They must also have a driver’s license or state-issued identification card in good standing.

You can apply until August 14th myRMV Online Service Center.

Although there is no cost to enter, “applicants selected in the lottery will be required to pay the special plate fee in addition to applicable standard vehicle registration fees,” the RMV said.

Commercial vehicles and motorcycles will not be accepted as applicants. MassDOT workers, contract employees and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate, the RMV said.
