At a press conference held on June 15 at the Grand Egyptian Museum, the partnership with Gala de Danza was announced, marking the regional and Egyptian debut of the Mexican dance company at one of Egypt’s most iconic cultural landmarks.
The cooperation will culminate in a special event at the Grand Egyptian Museum on Thursday, November 5, 2026, combining elements of heritage and contemporary artistic performance.
Representatives of the Global Education Monitoring Movement emphasized that the institution views culture as a force that inspires societies and builds bridges between generations. In this spirit, the partnership is framed as a natural extension of the Museum’s mission to support artistic expression across disciplines, including dance, music, art, food, education, innovation, youth engagement and sustainability.
Cristina Leon, founder and artistic director of Gala de Danza, a theatrical ballerina, highlighted the company’s signature strength: the ability to bring artists from around the world together to create meaningful encounters in extraordinary places.
She described Cairo and the Grand Egyptian Museum as a unique place for this purpose, where “the stillness of ancient collections meets the energy of live performance.”
Leon stressed that the event is designed to make a local impact, providing emerging Egyptian artists with the opportunity to be seen, mentored and supported on home soil alongside other international artists.
Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Grand Egyptian Museum, presented the partnership as a milestone in the museum’s broader development into a cultural and heritage destination with global reach.
Furthermore, Gala di Danza representatives described the strong response from the aspiring young Egyptian dancers, and noted that the auditions and recordings reflect the depth of young people’s enthusiasm for participation.
GEM and Gala de Danza signaled their intention to continue building bridges through cultural exchange, positioning the event as a celebration of intergenerational connection.
Internationally known artists are expected to participate alongside emerging Egyptian artists, and the show, which will take place on November 5, will provide a platform for young local talents to participate in an event that has international visibility.
