(KRON) – Police arrested five students at Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa on campus Thursday.
Police said that the arrested students are all 15-year-old boys studying in the 10th grade. They are suspected of vandalizing Herbert Slater Middle School and destroying school property.
The middle school campus, located at 3500 Sonoma Street, has been closed since last summer. For the 2025-2026 school year, Herbert Slater Middle School students share campus with high school students at Montgomery High School. The Slater Campus remains a Santa Rosa City School District facility that serves as a venue for seasonal school sports teams.
On November 2, the Santa Rosa Police Department was notified about widespread vandalism at the middle school.
“Numerous rooms on campus were vandalized. Some of the damage included trash cans and furniture in the girls’ locker room being toppled, a bathroom door being torn off in the boys’ locker room. A broken skylight was discovered in the weight room, and a stage curtain was torn on the stage. Additionally, a television was damaged, and trash was thrown throughout the wrestling room. District staff estimated the damage at approximately $5,000,” SRPD wrote.
Police and school district employees reviewed campus security camera footage to identify five suspects as sophomores at Montgomery High School.
On Thursday at 1:20 p.m., an SRPD officer coordinated with school officials at Montgomery High School to “secretly remove the five boys from class” and go to the school office.
The boys were arrested and taken to juvenile hall on charges of vandalism, burglary, and conspiracy to commit a felony. Officials did not announce their names because the children are minors.
