The union is asking for community support for the young firefighter, who will need multiple surgeries to fully recover.

The Chelmsford Firefighters’ Union is asking for community support after one of its members was seriously injured during a training activity.
Nick Spinall, 28, has been a member of Chelmsford Local Firefighters 1839 for two and a half years, according to Community fundraising. It is part of the Fire Services Department Crib support The department said a team from the Massachusetts Fire Academy in Stowe On Facebook.
While training his fellow firefighters at the academy Tuesday, Spinali fell about 40 feet from a window and landed on the hard concrete. The fundraiser said he suffered “facial fractures, severe damage to internal organs, and fractures to his wrists.”
Spinall was airlifted to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, where his injuries were considered life-threatening, according to a union news release. He is now being treated in the intensive care unit at UMass Memorial, but will need several surgeries and physical rehabilitation to fully recover.
“The outpouring of support from their fellow firefighters along with Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts, the International Association of Fire Fighters, the residents of Chelmsford and throughout Massachusetts has been amazing,” the union said. “Chelmsford Local Firefighters 1839 extends its gratitude to the staff of the Massachusetts Fire Academy and the fire/EMS personnel from Stow, Sudbury and Life Flight who provided immediate care at the scene and during transport.”
The incident prompted officials to think about the sacrifices that firefighters around the world make in their daily work.
“Yesterday’s events at the Massachusetts Fire Academy remind us how important and valuable fire instructors and support personnel are — in Massachusetts, across the country, and around the world,” the Department of Fire Services said. On Facebook. “While we hold our injured colleague in our hearts, we want to acknowledge these vital individuals and thank everyone who has sent messages of support.”
