AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas A&M Forest Service More than $164 million in funding has been approved For fire departments in Texas.
Funding provided through Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Programis scheduled to be directed to 558 fire trucks and 321 roll-off units for volunteer fire departments in Texas.
“Texas fire departments are the front line of local response, and the capacity of their equipment is vital to response time and effectiveness,” said Al Davis, director of the Texas A&M Forest Service. “This historic funding reflects the strong support of the Texas Legislature and Governor. Their investment allows us to continue to support and equip firefighters who protect Texans’ lives and property.”
Additional funding will be awarded over the coming months, which will allow for more firefighting and rescue equipment, personal protective equipment, training aids and dry hydrants, the service said.
“By using funding through this program to purchase critical equipment, local fire departments are increasing their equipment capacity to respond to wildfires and a wide range of emergency incidents, including home fires and automobile accidents,” the Texas A&M Forest Service said.
