A fan wearing Cubs gear ended up on the field in the bottom of the ninth inning of Wednesday night’s game between the Orioles and Cubs at Camden Yards in Baltimore, leading to the woman being escorted out.
Former Mets shortstop and current Orioles first baseman Pete Alonso was at the plate with two outs when home plate umpire Adrian Johnson had to pause the game after spotting a fan on the field along the left field warning path.
It was not clear from the broadcast footage how she ended up there, but at first she looked as confused as everyone else before she started dancing jokingly and raising her arms.
This action did not go down well with the fans at Camden Yards, who began booing her.
Video filmed by The Baltimore Sun A member of the stadium security team escorted the fan from the field with his arm around her shoulders, before she was handed over to a uniformed police officer who escorted her off the field behind home plate, an Associated Press photo showed.
She received more boos and jeers as she walked toward the exit behind home plate.
“Everybody’s going to be leaving the field tonight, and you’d rather not leave them handcuffed, but that will be the case for at least one fan,” Orioles play-by-play announcer Kevin Brown said during the incident.
The game was postponed only briefly, and after play resumed, Alonso hit a home run along the first base line that was caught by Cubs first baseman Michael Bush in the final out of the game in a 9–7 Chicago win.
