Harry Kane scored his first Bundesliga goal of the season to help Bayern Munich edge to a 2-1 win at promoted Elversberg on Sunday. Handed the captain’s armband with skipper Manuel Neuer rested, Kane scored with 18 minutes remaining to break a 1-1 deadlock and put the defending champions on track for victory.
Bayern had taken the lead through teenage Germany winger Lennart Karl, but Elversberg – who had won their opening two matches in their maiden top-flight campaign – levelled things up just after the hour mark thanks to a stunning curling effort from Maurice Krattenmacher.
Kane scored 36 league goals last campaign, but after drawing a blank in his first two matches he told Dazn: “That’s football – sometimes you have to wait more than you’d have expected. It was nice to get the goal and the three points. It’s a tough place so we’re happy with the win. We probably haven’t reached our top level yet, but it’s still early days.”
RB Leipzig bounced back from their midweek Champions League defeat at Como by thumping strugglers Hamburg 5-0 at home. The Norway winger Antonio Nusa was the best of the bunch for the hosts, scoring one goal and setting up two more, including one for Christopher Nkunku, his first since returning to Leipzig in August.
Tidiam Gomis, Willi Orban and Rômulo also got on the scoresheet for Leipzig, who climbed to fifth in the table with the victory. Hamburg’s third heavy defeat in a row leaves the six-times German champions bottom of the table with a -12 goal difference.
In Italy Juventus suffered a 3-2 defeat after a frantic finish at Sassuolo on Sunday. Sassuolo broke the deadlock in the 65th minute when Nemanja Matic slipped a precise pass into the area for Sebastiano Esposito, who finished coolly.
Juventus levelled in the 82nd minute after Sassuolo goalkeeper Arijanet Muric misjudged a cross, allowing Edon Zhegrova to tap into an empty net. The hosts retook the lead through Scottish striker Kieron Bowie, who curled a first-time effort into the corner in the 89th minute.
Zhegrova appeared to have rescued a point for Juventus when he fired home from the edge of the area in stoppage time, but Sassuolo had the final say. Four minutes into injury time, Vasilije Adzic curled a superb finish into the far corner to seal victory for Alberto Aquilani’s side with virtually the last kick of the game.
Napoli ended a three-match losing run with a 1-0 home win over Bologna. Midfielder Stanislav Lobotka turned in a second-half winner after Arthur Theate’s early header for the visitors was ruled offside by VAR. Elsewhere, Lassana Coulibaly scored twice as Lecce earned a 3-2 home win over Monza. Inter host Udinese, Como entertain Parma and Roma travel to Torino on Monday evening.
In Spain, Barcelona continued their perfect start to the season with a hard-fought 4-2 La Liga victory over Levante in Valencia on Sunday. Barça struck twice within the first 19 minutes, their goals coming from Xavi Espart and Lamine Yamal.
Just 42 seconds into the second half, Barcelona were awarded a penalty, won and converted by Lamine Yamal. An errant pass from Espart allowed Levante forward Iván Romero to round goalkeeper Joan García and pass the ball into the net with 12 minutes to go.
With two minutes remaining, Roger Brugue burst through multiple Barcelona challenges to score a second for Levante, but the hosts’ hopes of an unlikely comeback were definitively ended by a mazy run and finish from Karim Adeyemi in the 93rd minute.

Atlético Madrid scored three late goals to beat Real Sociedad 3-0, as new signings Alejandro Grimaldo and Jonathan David scored their first goals since joining the club.
The visitors took charge of a dull encounter when Grimaldo netted an 84th-minute penalty, before David doubled their lead on the break six minutes later. Giuliano Simeone added a third in the 95th minute to complete the scoring for Atlético, who were without Julián Alvarez and Pablo Barrios due to muscle injuries.
Adrian Nino’s late goal rescued a 1-1 draw for Málaga against Celta Vigo, who had dominated the game at Balaidos. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored his fifth goal in as many games as Deportivo A Coruña fought back to draw 1-1 with Getafe.
Ferran Torres kept up his scoring form as Paris Saint-Germain won their first Ligue 1 match of the season at the fourth attempt, edging to a 1-0 victory against Brest.
Torres took five minutes to put the visitors ahead, picking up a loose ball in midfield and passing to João Neves. The ball was worked to Ousmane Dembélé, whose back heel into Torres’ path gave him time and space to bend a low shot into the corner.
Torres has now netted six goals in five outings since moving to the European champions, who move up to seventh after starting their league campaign with two draws and a defeat.
Lille moved top of the table on goal difference with a 2-0 triumph over Troyes, with Ethan Mbappé adding a late second after Tiago Santos’s opener. Lens fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at another promoted side, Le Mans.
