Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population Announce The implementation of the “birth path” begins as of Monday, June 1, 2026, through an integrated system within primary health care units and centers nationwide.
The “Neonatal Pathway” aims to provide a comprehensive package of preventive and therapeutic services for the mother and newborn during the first month after birth, which is considered a critical stage that requires careful attention to ensure a healthy start for the child and early detection of any health problems.
Services provided to the newborn during the first week include: comprehensive medical examination, growth measurements, hearing examination, heel prick test to detect hereditary diseases and metabolic disorders, early detection of jaundice, and basic vaccinations.
For mothers, services include: postpartum follow-up, breastfeeding support and encouragement, and awareness of warning signs in the mother and child.
