Egyptian Ministry of Transport Announce The first phase of the East Nile Monorail will open to passengers on Wednesday, May 6, and will operate daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The line will connect the Field Marshal Tantawi Station in Nasr City to the City of Justice Station in the New Administrative Capital, providing a direct link between New Cairo and the capital for residents and government employees alike.
The first phase includes 16 stations, including: Field Marshal Tantawi, One Ninety, Air Hospital, Narges, Investors District, Lotus Station, Golden Square, Beit Al Watan, Al-Fattah Al-Aleem Mosque, District R1, District R2, Finance and Business, City of Arts and Culture, Government District, Misr Mosque, City of Justice.
The line integrates with existing transportation infrastructure, link With the Light Rail Transit (LRT) at the City of Arts and Culture station, with a future connection to Metro Line 6 planned at the Narges station.
Each station features stairs and escalators, as well as internal and external elevators. Dedicated paths, tactile maps and visual guidance systems were installed throughout the ticketing halls and platforms for passengers with disabilities, while providing designated spaces for wheelchairs inside the carriages equipped with safety restraints.
The monorails run on electricity, reducing noise and emissions. The coaches are fully air-conditioned and equipped with surveillance cameras, liquid crystal display (LCD) screens that display trip information and announcements, and overhead displays above the doors to alert passengers of upcoming stops.
The line is designed to facilitate access to New Cairo and the New Administrative Capital, as it connects residential neighborhoods to conference centres, hospitals, hotels, shopping centres, universities, corporate headquarters and sports clubs.
