Egypt men’s national fencing team beat Bronze medal at the World Fencing Championships after defeating Israel 39-38 in the third place match on Wednesday, July 29.
The Egyptian quartet, Mohamed El-Sayed, Youssef Shamil, Mahmoud Mohsen, and Mahmoud El-Sayed, topped the podium after a wonderful march during the tournament, which was held in Hong Kong during the period from 22 to 30 July.
Egypt opened its campaign by defeating Portugal 44-33 in the round of 32, before defeating Spain 36-35 in the round of 16.
The team then made a strong showing in the quarter-finals, defeating Russia 45-35 to secure a place in the semi-finals.
Egypt’s bid for a place in the final ended in a 41-32 defeat to Kazakhstan, but the team rallied to defeat Israel in a close match for the bronze medal, with the match decided by a golden finish after the score was tied at 38-38.
This result is added to a growing list of achievements achieved by the Egyptian Saif national team, which has consolidated its position among the world’s leading teams in recent years. In 2025 the team to make history by winning their first ever Fencing World Cup title, defeating world champions and hosts Hungary 45-37 in the final after a series that included victories over Olympic champions South Korea and France.
