Egyptian Ministry of Transport Announce Ticket prices for the newly launched East Nile Monorail, which connects Field Marshal Tantawi Station to the New Administrative Capital, start on Friday, May 8, with prices taking effect on Saturday, May 9, after three days of free trips for passengers.
The first operational phase links East Cairo to the New Administrative Capital, providing commuters with a new high-speed transportation option aimed primarily at government employees and residents traveling between the two urban centres.
Under the newly announced pricing structure, the 22-station line has been divided into four tariff zones. A trip covering up to five stops costs 20 pounds, while a trip covering 10 stops costs 40 pounds. Passengers traveling through 15 stations pay 55 pounds, and a full line trip across the entire route costs 80 pounds.
Senior citizens over the age of 60 and passengers with disabilities will receive a 50% discount in all areas, reducing the maximum full trip fare to 40 Egyptian pounds.
The ministry also offered discounted subscription packages designed to encourage regular passengers to use the new system. Weekly, monthly and quarterly tickets provide travel at about half the price compared to standard ticket costs.
Prices for a weekly pass, valid for 14 trips over two weeks, range from 140 Egyptian pounds for one zone to 560 Egyptian pounds for the entire route. The cost of a monthly subscription, which covers 60 trips over 60 days, ranges between 600 pounds and 2,400 pounds, depending on the distance traveled. Prices for quarterly tickets valid for 180 trips range from 1,800 Egyptian pounds to 7,200 Egyptian pounds.
In comparison, Cairo metro tickets Fares currently range from EGP 8 for up to nine stops, EGP 10 for up to 16 stops, EGP 15 for up to 23 stops, and EGP 20 for trips over 23 stops.
Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir joined passengers on board the inaugural service on Wednesday as crowds gathered to experience Egypt’s first driverless monorail system. The line currently operates daily between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The second phase of the project, which extends west to the stadium station in Nasr City, is expected to open next month. Once completed, the East Nile Monorail will be extended 56.5 km From Nasr City to the New Administrative Capital.
A second route, the West Nile Monorail, is also being constructed, which will connect Mohandessin to 6th of October City via a straight line. 42 km long corridor.
The two monorail systems are expected to run almost together 100 kmIt includes 35 stations, which constitutes a major component of the advanced integrated transportation network in Greater Cairo.
