One year after the publication of the book Eyes of Gaza (2025), Palestinian journalist and writer Belestia Akkad He comes back To the lights of Cairo for a special evening of conversation and reflection at Diwan Library in Heliopolis.
The ceremony, scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 18, at 6 p.m., will feature Akkad speaking with writer Leila Shadid. The discussion aims to explore the human stories behind the headlines from Gaza and the broader urgent need to imagine a different future.
Diwan Library described The gathering as “a powerful evening on the anniversary of Eyes of Gaza – an act that transcends memoir into a call for witness, solidarity and hope.” The program will be followed by a book signing ceremony with the author.
Al-Aqqad, who gained international attention for her field reports from Gaza during the ongoing conflict, has documented the daily lives, personal experiences and reality of civilians through her writing and social media postings. The memoir has been praised for its intimate, unfiltered perspective that humanizes facts often relegated to news cycles.
The anniversary discussion comes amid continuing global attention to the humanitarian situation in Gaza and ongoing calls for solidarity through storytelling and literature.
