Crissy Froyd Details Mike Silver’s Behavior After Reacting to Mike Vrabel, Dianna Russini Scandal

On Monday, Froyd called out The Athletic’s Mike Silver for what she labeled “weird” and targeted behavior on social media after she wrote a column for The Daily Mail about the Vrabel-Russini scandal.

“Something weird did happen to me right after I wrote my article in Daily Mail. Mike Silver, who I don’t follow and doesn’t follow me, scrolled almost to the bottom of my Instagram and liked 2 of my bikini photos and an additional picture. In one I was only 20 and the other, 21,” Froyd wrote, while including screenshots as proof.

Froyd was responding to Tony Farmer, a podcaster who highlighted the fact that Silver has stayed silent on the Vrabel-Russini saga. He wrote, “Still nothing from Mike Silver when it comes to the Dianna Russini situation.”

Farmer has pointed out how Silver and Russini maintained a close relationship, with Silver interacting with Russini online and sharing her work.

Froyd, who was fired from her freelance role at USA Today Sports after publicly criticizing Russini’s ethics, has now transitioned into a whistleblower regarding NFL media culture.

Her op-ed for The Daily Mail detailed deep-rooted, systemic conflicts of interest within sports journalism circles, alleging that at least six female reporters have admitted to her that they trading intimacy for team access and scoops.

The Vrabel-Russini scandal has drawn intense scrutiny. While Russini resigned from her position at The Athletic ahead of her contract expiring, she explicitly pushed back against the public narrative.

Meanwhile, Patriots coach Vrabel has avoided questions regarding his personal life during recent press conferences. The Patriots have stood by Vrabel even after he stepped away from the team on Day 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft to attend counseling with his family.

While The Athletic is in the midst of an internal investigation of Russini, it’s unclear if the findings will be made public. Three-time Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth opined that this investigation has people in NFL circles worried.

“I think the entire league is nervous,” Schlereth stated.

The Vrabel-Russini scandal has dominated headlines for much of the offseason, and while things have quieted down a bit as of late, The Athletic’s investigation could be the next development in a saga that has been full of twists and turns.
