A cruise ship crew member went missing Saturday night, and surveillance footage showed him falling from the ship into Massachusetts waters, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

A crew member from the Norwegian Breakaway, a cruise ship owned and operated by Norwegian Cruise Lines, went down 12 miles east of Wellfleet, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

The Coast Guard said the cruise ship immediately turned around and deployed rescue boats and life rings.

Coast Guard Sector Southeast New England sent a helicopter to help search for the missing person, the Coast Guard said.

A spokesman for Norwegian Cruise Lines said that the cruise ship was allowed to continue its journey.

On Sunday morning, a small plane and crews from the Coast Guard Station in Provincetown searched for the member, the Coast Guard said.

The Coast Guard said the search was called off at 12:25 p.m. pending new information.

“The safety, security and well-being of our crew is our top priority. Our thoughts are with the crew members’ family during this difficult time,” a Danish Cruise Line spokesperson said.
