Costco announces all California stores to shut on Fourth of July — here’s where to go instead

Costco shoppers across California will have to cross one stop from their Fourth of July plans after the warehouse giant confirmed that all of its stores will be closed for the holiday, sending last-minute shoppers to competitors like Walmart, Target and Trader Joe’s instead.

The membership-only retailer will close all of its U.S. warehouses on Saturday, July 4, including its 142 locations in California, according to Men’s magazine.

California has more Costco warehouses than any other state, accounting for about 23% of the chain’s U.S. footprint.

The closure is part of Costco’s long-standing practice of closing on a few major holidays each year, including New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

If you still need burgers, buns, ice or other BBQ essentials, there are plenty of other places to shop.

Both Walmart and Target are expected to operate regular holiday hours. Whole Foods, Ralphs and other Kroger-owned grocery stores are also scheduled to remain open.

Trader Joe’s will welcome shoppers, but Aldi stores are expected to close at 5 p.m. You are expected to work reduced hours, which may vary by location. Customers are encouraged to check with their local store before checking out.
