Bonnie Tyler has woken up from a medically induced coma – although she remains in “serious condition”.
The singer’s team announced on Monday that “although her condition has improved, the recovery process is slow.”
Tyler is in intensive care in Faro, Portugal.
Last month, the “Total Eclipse of the Heart” singer, 75, was placed in a medically induced coma after being taken to hospital.
“Bonnie has been placed in an induced coma by her doctors to help her recover. We know you are all wishing her well and asking for privacy at this difficult time, please,” a statement from Tyler’s manager at the time read.
Days earlier, a statement was issued stating that Tyler “was admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency bowel surgery.”
“The surgery went well and she is recovering now.”
According to The SunIn April, Tyler began experiencing “severe abdominal pain shortly after arriving in Portugal, where she has a second home, after inconclusive tests in London.”
She was taken to hospital with a serious tear in her intestine and had to undergo emergency surgery.
The following month, Tyler was placed in an induced coma due to complications from surgery.
Portuguese media claimed that Tyler suffered a cardiac arrest when doctors tried to bring her out of the coma several weeks ago.
All concerts planned by the artist through the end of August have been cancelled.
Her management issued a statement thanking fans for their support.
“We would like to thank everyone for the tremendous sympathy and support from around the world,” she said.
Tyler is best known for her song “Total Eclipse of the Heart”, along with other top ten hits such as “It’s a Heartache” and “Hold Out For A Hero”.
In March, Tyler said she was confident in her health Interview with Hello! magazine.
“I’m fit enough at the moment, touch wood, I’m really enjoying performing,” Tyler told the outlet at the time.
