A missing swimmer has been discovered dead in a Georgia lake long rumored to be haunted, according to authorities and reports.
Terrell Shelton, 21, disappeared into Lake Lanier off Robinson Park Beach on Saturday afternoon, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said Shelton was swimming to an island with his friends when he suddenly disappeared from their sight. According to people.
The administration said in a statement: “When the friends looked back, they could not see him and thought he had gone under the water and never appeared again.”
Hours later, Shelton’s body was discovered in approximately 14 feet of water just before midnight Saturday and was recovered from the lake by a remotely operated vehicle, cops said.
Shelton’s sister, Calista Shelton, He told WCBTV She was shocked that her brother – whom she described as a “good swimmer” – could disappear so quickly.
“Honestly, I was shaking, and I was scared. My brother is a good swimmer. How could this happen?” Calista Shelton told the outlet. “I don’t know what would have happened in the time frame of him going to that island.”
In a Facebook tribute, the grieving sister asked the public to pray for Shelton’s family and friends.
“He had so much life ahead of him. He was a son, a brother, a partner, a friend and someone who was deeply loved by so many people. The pain of losing him so suddenly is impossible to put into words,” Calista said.
“Tyrell, I wish I had more time with you,” she continued. “I hope we can have another conversation, another laugh, another memory. You will always be my brother, and I will carry you with me for the rest of my life.”
“Please keep our family, his friend and everyone who loved him in your thoughts and prayers as we deal with this devastating loss.”
A GoFundMe fundraiser to cover funeral and memorial expenses for the 21-year-old has raised more than $2,000 of the family’s goal of $14,000.
Built in the 1950s over submerged towns, forests and cemeteries, Lake Lanier was the site of creepy scenes in the Netflix drama “Ozark.” CNN reported earlier.
Since 1994, more than 200 people have died in the lake’s waters, and locals have long believed the artificial lake is haunted.
In May 2025, Dustin Valencia, a 43-year-old father of five and triathlete, disappeared while kayaking on Lake Lanier.
After an extensive search, his body was found in a cove 51 feet below the surface of the lake, police said at the time.
Shelton’s death was the seventh reported at Lake Lanier this year. His drowning is still under investigation, according to authorities.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
